Didier LourencoThe young, contemporary Spanish artist Didier Lourenco, whose appealing and distinctive paintings have become immensely popular, was born in Premia del Mar, Barcelona, in 1968. At the age of 19, he began to work in his father's print studio, where he learned the art of lithography. At the age of 20, he had his first solo exhibition in Barcelona, and he printed his first lithographic edition. Lourenco took over a small corner of his father's studio and began to paint on paper and canvas. Having then dedicated himself solely to painting, the various artists that would visit the studio became the source of his education in the world of painting. Lourenco was awarded Second Prize at the XXXIII Premio de Pintura Joven de la Sala Pares de Barcelona and he also participated in some group shows in Barcelona and Valencia. He won the Premios Talentos of the XXXIV Premio de Pintura Joven de la Sala Pares de Barcelona in 1992. He had his first solo show at the Galeria Art Dama de Calafell and continued to participate in numerous group shows. In addition, he had solo exhibitions at the Vayreda de Barcelona, Gasto Sala d'Art de Terrassa, Sala Rebull de Reus, Galeria Susany de Vic, and at the Minerva Galeria d'Art de Mataro. In 1995, Lourenco left his corner in his father's studio and moved into his own studio in Premia del Mar. His solo shows continued, and in between his work in his studio and his exhibitions, he would travel and paint. His fresh, distinctive, and exuberant style, and modern elongated figures, are widely sought after. He captures the joy of life and is known for his painting of scenes from his travels (Brisa Marina; Tarde de Febrero; Vespa in Miami; Brooklyn Bridge), outdoor cafes (Café y Perro) and street life (Paseo), jazz clubs (Red Jazz) and more recently golf scenes (Bolsa con Palos; Vistas al Hoyo; En el Green). Lourenco continues to travel and paint, finding new sources of inspiration for his highly appealing work and filling the demands for his work in solo and collective shows. See
