Warren KimbleWarren Kimble is a much-loved contemporary Vermont artist who paints in a distinctive and warm, folk art style. His stylized animals (Folk Moose; Cat in Hot Tin Tub; Red Cow) and rural scenes (House With Flag; Cottage in the Valley) have the feel of early American primitive art. In keeping with the folk art tradition, he paints on antique architectural boards, and his acrylic and watercolor technique adds to the charm of his whimsical and engaging work. Kimble carefully chooses a color palette that has a muted, early American feel, and he is a master of pattern, as can be seen in his game boards (Parcheesi, Checkers, Backgammon), which have the look of lovingly constructed old quilts. Drawn to art and painting ever since his New Jersey boyhood, Kimble received his formal art training at Syracuse University in New York State, and he graduated with a bachelor of fine arts degree in 1957. After initially pursuing a career in advertising, he taught art in public schools, and later joined the art faculty at Castleton State College in Castleton, Vermont. He left the college in 1983 to pursue his passion for painting full time. Kimble always had an abiding love and regard for early American crafted furniture, architecture, and folk art, and his deep understanding of early decorative arts contributed to the development of his new style of American folk art. His expertise also led him to become a well-respected authority on American antiques and President of the Vermont Antique Dealers Association. As a fine artist, Kimble has held one-man shows at the Frank J. Miele Gallery in New York, the Chase Gallery in Boston, and numerous galleries throughout Vermont. With numerous awards and honors to his name, and enormous success, Kimble continues to paint daily. He has lived in Vermont for more than 30 years, and with his wife, Lorraine, operates Kimble House, a group of restored nineteenth-century farm buildings that include his studio, a gallery, gift shop, showroom, and office. Here they are able to incorporate their knowledge and appreciation of early American style into every aspect of their life. See
